She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Ruby C. Gums Sr. and Daisey Thomason Gums; and two brothers, Mr. Ruby C. "Red" Gums Jr. and Mahlon Gums. She is a graduate of William R. Davie High School Class of 1945 and was a retired weaver with 25 years of service at J.P. Stevens.
She is survived by three daughters, Becky A. Brake and Mona A. Daniels and her husband, John, all of Roanoke Rapids, and Bonita A. Watson of Rocky Mount; two sons, John Nelson Allen and his wife, Cathy, and Phillip G. Allen, all of Roanoke Rapids; one sister, Ollie G. Allen of Roanoke Rapids; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Hockaday Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 19, in the chapel. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 18, at the funeral home, and other times at 1985 U.S. Highway 158, Roanoke Rapids.
