Walter Dean "Bud" Arthur, 82, passed away Monday, January 6, 2014 with his wife and family by his side. Bud was born in Tacoma, Washington on June 24, 1931 to Walter Shedrick Arthur and Geraldine Hazel (Conklin) Arthur and younger brother to Betty (Arthur) Shubert.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Barbara (Johnson) Arthur; his daughter, Bonnie (Arthur) Lange and husband, Gordon Lange; his son, Dennis Arthur and wife, Michelle Arthur; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; numerous nieces; nephews and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Walter Arthur; his mother Hazel Hansen and his sister Betty Shubert.

After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1949, Bud attended 1 year at the University of Puget Sound. He served several years in the Naval Reserve during the Korean War. Bud and Barbara were engaged in May of 1950 and were married on January 26th 1951. Their daughter, Bonnie was born later that year with their son Dennis following two years later.

Bud worked at a local Drugstore and Soda Shop while attending high school. He then worked at Upton's Appliances and Repair before becoming a sheetrock finisher and bookkeeper for a local company prior to being self-employed as a Master Sheetrock Finisher in his own business for over 40 years. He took pride in his work and was in much demand by contractors to do custom homes. He also built his own home in 1961 which he and his wife and two children lived in and his wife resides in now.

Bud was a member of the Evangelistic Tabernacle on "K" street for many years, serving as a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader, and Deacon. Later he attended the "G" Street Assembly of God Church which later became the Tacoma Life Center at 18th and Union.

Bud was a man of integrity and character with an inner strength which was only possible through Christ. He was our family's compass and guiding light always lighting the way. He was always giving a helping hand to others who needed it, even when he did not have much himself.

His grandchildren and great grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life some calling him "Papa", "Grandpa," or "Father." He enjoyed kidding and playing with them and having them visit him and his wife whenever they could. He was the most wonderful grandfather to all his grandchildren and great grandchildren helping each of them in any way he could. He has gone on before us but leaves behind strong teachings of God and a sense of pride in being part of his family.

"I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears."
Psalms 34:4

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart: and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
Proverbs 3:5-6
