BENTON - Joseph L. Ainslie, 81, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, in Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, in Morton and Johnston Funeral Home in Benton, with the Rev. Bill Perry officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic and Oddfellows Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

BENTON - Joseph L. Ainslie, 81, passed away Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, in Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin.

He was born March 4, 1932, in Battle Creek, Mich.

He married Juanita Ruth (Carney), and she preceded him in death Feb. 11, 1995.

Mr. Ainslie was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the Air Force from April of 1949to September of 1952.

He owned and operated Eagle Tool and Manufacturing in Benton. He was a coal miner, working at Old Ben 21. Mr. Ainslie retired from Southern Illinois University as a Tool and Die Machinist. While he was employed at SIU, he completed his bachelor's degree. He sang at several area churches and was a devout Christian.

Survivors include two sons, Leonard Ainslie and wife, Carolyn of Herrin and Alan Ainslie and wife, Angie of Benton; two stepdaughters, Ann Wilson and husband Rick, of West Frankfort and Terri Wilson of Eustis, Fla.; grandchildren, Adam Ainslie, Brittnie Wells and husband, Adam, Casey Ainslie, Garrett Wilson and wife, Sara, Tiara Wilson, Tawny Leech, Amy Townsend and husband, Jimmy and Stephanie Luke and husband, Jimmy; great-grandchildren, Keegan Wells, Hudson Wells, Rylee Crisp, Raygen Crisp, David Wilson, Jasper Leech, Dylan Townsend, Cohben Townsend, Jensen Luke, Emery Luke and Jayce Luke; one sister, Dorothy Kellogg of San Antonio, Texas; sister-in-law, Nina Ainslie of Battle Creek, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews, whom he loved very much.

Mr. Ainslie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters, Betty Potter and Florence Palmer; and one brother, Albert Ainslie.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, in Morton and Johnston Funeral Home in Benton, with the Rev. Bill Perry officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic and Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton with military honors conducted by the Benton American Legion, VFW Posts and the Illinois National Guard Honor Squad. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc.
