Rev. Don Anderson officiated at the rites held last Friday afternoon in the First Methodist Church for A. C. "Ace" Erwin, 71, who died Wednesday night at the Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital. Interment was in the Garden of Memories, under the direction of the Memorial Funeral Home.
A native of Nebraska, he moved to Corpus Christi in 1919, living there until 1948 when he and his family moved to Kerrville. He was one of the successful developers of the Saxtet oil fields and had many business interests. He was also said to have been the promoter of the first baseball club in Corpus Christi.
After moving here he bought a farm, between the Guadalupe River and the San Antonio Road and developed this into one of the finest of motor courts in the country. He was a zealous worker in the Lions Club, and held an honorary life membership in the national organization. He was a generous and influential member of the Baptist Church, and an honorary member of the board of directors of the Livestock Shows Association.
His survivors includes his widow of the home address; one daughter, Mrs. Carl Broughton of this city; two sons, Robert and Arthur Erwin of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Mrs. Randolph Bailey of this city, and Mrs. H. H. Firey of Tulsa, Okla.; two brothers, Perry Erwin of Henrietta, Okla., and Harry Erwin of Tulsa, Okla., and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jack Parks, Gordon Monroe, Robert Meredith, F. A. Karger, Jack Lemon and Edward Rinderknecht.
