Frances was the daughter of George R Young & Mollie Hagen Young, she was the 3rd of about 9 children born in Madison County, NC.

Frances was first married to Larkin Lindsey, son of Reuben A. Lindsey & Elender "Sade" Shelton - Lindsey, in Hickory, NC on 30 September 1919 by the Lutheran minister J C Peery; she was his 2nd or 3rd wife. Larkin was first married to Betty Jackson Sigmon in 1907, and he was living with a woman named "Annie" in Arlington, SC in September 1918 on his draft card.

In 1921, Frances & Larkin were living in Beaverdam, Haywood County, NC, near his two brothers Will and Coleman where Frances gave birth to daughter Lottie on 8 Oct 1921. Frances & Larkin had at least 3 children, two daughters & one son who was born premature in Henderson County, NC in 1924 & did not survive. They were sharecropping in Burningtown, Macon County, NC in 1930.

Larkin was shot to death while hiring out to pick cotton in 1934 in New Prospect, northern Spartanburg County, SC by a neighbor who was protecting Frances from Larkin during a drunken rage, according to the article about his trial in the Spartanburg, SC newspaper. Larkin's family had a history of violence, Larkin's mother Sade Shelton was known to be a violent woman, too, and Sade's father "Buffer" Jim Shelton had a reputation for picking fights. After Larkin's death, Frances and her children moved back to North Carolina near her family.

When Frances died, she was listed as a widow Ball & was living with her divorced daughter Althea Lindsey Anderson at 167 Broadway in Asheville & working in a mill, she had diabetes and cardiovascular problems. Althea died 8 August 1990 in Asheville. Frances's older daughter Lottie who married twice to Clarence James Kurkendall & Howard W Allen, had predeceased her on 31 May 1966 in St Joseph's Hospital, Asheville of abdominal cancer, her home address was in Leicester. As far as I know, none of Frances's children had children of their own.
