Sylvester Jerome Kappell, age 74, died Sunday, October 23, 1988, at home following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 22, 1914, in Kaukauna, the son of the late Walter and Bardine [Heiting] Kappell. He had been employed by Thilmany Pulp & Paper Company for 48 years prior to his retirement in 1976. He sang solos at special occasions; was an avid reader, baseball fan and loved fishing and gardening.
As a young man, he was a player for the Kaukauna Northern State ball league. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Catholic Knights, the Thilmany Quarter Century Club and served as a representative and active worker for the Kaukauna Senior Citizens Meal Program. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Delores [VanderLoop] Kappell; his children-Joanne [Allen] Wihksne, Sister Karen Kappell-FSPA, Susan [William] Morrissey, David [Donna] Kappell, Ronald [Linda] Kappell, Jill [Michael] Huss, Mary Ann [David] Nagan, Jr., Allen Kappell, Daniel [Linda] Kappell, 11 grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence [Valita] Kappell, a sister, Berniece [Eugene] Peeters, two sister-in-laws, Mildred Kappell, and Eunice Kappell. He was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Wolfgram; and two brothers, Leo and Clifford. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 26, 1988, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. John Dewane officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
