Gordon Rush Burrus, 86, of Tiptonville, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.

He was a retired Sergeant for the Tennessee Highway Patrol, where he worked for 29 years.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Tiptonville.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Burrus of Tiptonville; a daughter, Phyllis Bargery and husband, Bryan, of Ridgely; a sister, Shirley Johnston of Tiptonville; two grandchildren, Kasey Bargery and Kaitlin Bargery; and two great grandchildren, Brendan Bargery and Ashton Bargery.

He was preceded in death by a son, James Rush Burrus; and his parents, James Cheek Burrus and Mattie Dial Burrus.

Pallbearers will be Kasey Bargery, Greg Johnston, Steve Johnston, Joey Spicer, Trent Patterson and Kent Patterson. Honorary pallbearers will be J.T. "Bubba" Burrus, W.C. Haynes, Albert Markham, Don Peacock, Larry Bell, Billy Roberts and Terry Petty.
