Daughter of Hugh McAndrew and Betsy Leslie. She married John Deason in 1858 in Victoria, Australia. Their children were; John (1857-1858), Thomas (1860-1928), Hugh McAndrew (1861-1861), Henry Jenkins (1862-1932), Hugh McAndrew (1864-1940), Elizabeth married Robinson (1866-), Alfred (1868-1933), Catherine married Davies (1870-1935), Grace Oates married Heraud (1872-1956), John Edward (1874-?), James Joseph (1876-1950), and Mary Anne (1878-1913).

Death Notice in The Ballarat Star of Sep. 14, 1921: DUNOLLY. DEATH OF A PIONEER. The burial took place at the Moliagul Cemetery on Saturday of Mrs Catherine Deason, who was 85 years of age. She resided in the district for over 64 years, and was the widow of John Deason, one of the miners who unearthed the Welcome Stranger, nugget, of 210lb weight in 1869.
