erniece Evelyn Owen, age 95 of Lockhart, formerly of Austin, passed away Friday, January 3, 2014. Berniece was born May 10, 1918 to John and Anner (Amason) Jackson in Laneport, TX.

She attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, TX, where she met her husband Lavene on a blind date. They married and made their home in Austin and had one son. She worked for the Williamson County ISD, Texas State Board of Pardons, and retired from the Texas State Board of Control. She was a member of the Texas Public Employees Association, did volunteer work with the Austin Senior Citizens, and was a member of Hyde Park United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one great grandson, three brothers, and five sisters. She is survived by her son John Owen and wife Ruby of Lockhart, three grandchildren: Randy Owen and wife Becky of Cedar Park, Kristina Gorman of North Attleboro, MA, and Stacie Schroeder and husband Trey of San Antonio; five great granddaughters, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her brother-in-law, Gilbert Owen of Marble Falls.

Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 with funeral services following at 2:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on North Lamar with The Rev. Ralph Underwood officiating. Burial will be at Austin Memorial Park.
