John Larned, 77, long-time Haskell County building contractor, farmer, and rancher passed away Monday, November 15, 1999 at an Abilene care home. He leaves behind a beautiful heritage of family and friends. Funeral services were held November 18th at the First Baptist Church in Haskell Texas. Burial is in Willow Cemetery in Haskell Texas.

"Big John" was born on August 3, 1922 in Haskell County and graduated from Paint Creek High School. He married Florence Evelyn Turnbow on September 27, 1941 and together they had four children. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the US Army Air Corps. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Haskell.

John is survived by his wife of 58 years; two daughters, Betty Sue Wolfe and husband Erby of Potosi, Tx and Shirley Story of Wichita Falls, Tx; two sons, Johney Larned, Jr. and wife Derinda of New Braunfels, Tx and Tim Larned of Haskell, Tx; two sisters, Toby Davis Briscoe and Francis Jarman, both of Pasadena, Tx; three brothers, WD Larned and Norval Joe Larned, both of Haskell, and Don Larned of Pasadena; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
