Lloyd Preston Baxley Sr., 85, of Georgetown died Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at his residence.
Mr. Baxley was born in Hemingway on March 2, 1925, a son of the late David Waddell Baxley and Addie Mae Eaddy Baxley.
He served in the Navy during World War II in the Atlantic, participated in four major campaigns, and was awarded four battle stars.
Mr. Baxley attended Georgia Institute of Technology.
He was a maintenance superintendent with Hudson Pulp and Paper in Palatka, Fla. and retired in 1971 and was a partner in Baxley Farms in Georgetown Co. until 2006.
Mr. Baxley was a member of Freedom Tabernacle Church.
He was a former treasurer of Rose Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, was one of the last of a group of men who built the Rose Hill Baptist Church Sanctuary and Educational Building, and a co-chairman of the church parsonage building committee.
Mr. Baxley was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Hemingway Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Baxley was predeceased by a son, Christopher Williams Baxley; a daughter, Iris June Baxley; and a brother, Dr. David W. Baxley.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Williams Baxley of Georgetown; a son, Lloyd Baxley, Jr. (Connie) of Georgetown; three daughters, Kathy Baxley Crammer (Steve), Terry Baxley Porter (Ted), and Stephanie Baxley Reames (Rivers), all of Georgetown; nine grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be ten o'clock Thursday morning, July 15, 2010 in Freedom Tabernacle Church.
Officiating will be the Rev. Wayne Elliott and the Rev. C. Ray Martin.
Private Burial will be in the Baxley Family Cemetery.
