Dough was born in Nixon, Missouri and attended school in Fredericktown, Missouri. He served in the Air Force in Korea and Washington from 1961 to 1966. In 1970 he received his bachelor's degree in business administration from Southeast Missouri State Univerisity in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He married Doris Bollinger on May 11, 1963 in Fredericktown, Missouri.

He lived in Nixon, Fredericktown, Blaine Washington, Cedar Rapids Iowa, Blue Springs Missiouri, Amarillo and had been a resident of Dumas since 1976. He worked for Bechtel Corp. for 5 years, Diamond Shamrock Oil and Gas for 12 years and Maxus Oil and Gas for 8 years until his retirement in 1995. He held a real estate license since 1978.

He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans, a member of Dumas Masonic Lodge Number 1009 and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivers include his wife; two daughters, Kimberly Palser and husband Scott of Dumas and Karissa Estes and husband Chad of Amarillo; his parents Andrew and Ruth Lohse of Dumas; two brothers Donald Lohse and wife Andrea and Ronald Lohse and wife carol all of St. Louis Missouri; and three grandchildren: Andrew and Alyssa Palser of Dumas and Harli Estes of Amarillo.
