Ann Caudle Howell Byerly, 81, of Abbotts Creek Rehabilitation Care Center, formerly of Reedy Creek Road, died Thursday, January 2, 2014, at Abbotts Creek.

A graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2014, at Forest Hill Memorial Park at the Mausoleum Chapel with Brother Bobby Leonard officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from noon to 2 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son, Robert Byerly.

Mrs. Byerly was born August 17, 1932, in Davidson County, to Clyde Howell and Ethel Caudle Howell. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Glen Byerly; brother, Bob Howell; and sisters, Charlotte Cox and Grace Christly.

After her marriage she devoted her life to volunteering to help others. She worked many hours with her friend Ruth Snow to establish programs and services in Davidson County for individuals with special needs. The programs included. The ARC of Davidson County where she was a charter member and served as president and board member for the local, state and national ARC. She also worked with many other groups who were special to her including The Workshop of Davidson County, The Developmental Center, Davidson County 4-H and Davidson County Special Olympics

Surviving are sons, Scott Byerly and wife Teresa, Jeffrey Glen Byerly , Clegg Byerly and wife Patti, and Robert Byerly and wife Amy, all of Lexington; daughters, LaRue Kennedy of Thomasville and Felicia Springer and husband Rick of Lexington; grandchildren, Michael Glenn Kennedy and wife Beth, Heath Younts and wife Kelly, Kelli Carter and husband Jarred, Nicole Byerly, Brooke Byerly, Ashley Byerly, Dustin Glen Byerly, Sydney Byerly, Monica Watkins, and Jason Watkins; great-grandchildren, Lainey Younts, Lucas Kennedy, Byerly Kennedy, Rylee Payne, Ethan Carter and Emily-Grace Carter; brother, Jerry Howell and wife Jean of Lexington; and sisters-in-law, Betty Brown and husband Roy and Lora Caputy.
