Elina died January 2, 2014 at Prince of Peace Care Center in Ellendale.
Elina Kirvida, daughter of Joseph and Anne (Hropko) Kirvida was born September 4, 1922 northeast of Gackle, ND. She was baptized September 28, 1923 in Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in St. Paul, MN and was instructed in the Christian faith as an adult and confirmed March 9, 1952 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ellendale with Rev. Clen Mehl officiating. Elina grew up in the Gackle area and attended a country school thru eighth grade then graduating from Jamestown, ND High School. She lived at home helping her father after her mother died.
She was united in marriage to Edwin Delzer on August 3, 1943 at Napoleon, ND. They made their first home at Waynesville, Missouri, a small town near Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri where Edwin was stationed, then moving to Holdridge, NE where he was transferred to serve at Camp Atlanta, a prisoner of war camp that held German prisoners. After Edwin's discharge on February 27, 1946 they made their home south of Forbes, ND until November 1946 when they moved to a farmstead northeast of Ellendale.
Elina worked at the Ellendale Nursing Center for 21 years, retiring May 10, 1985. After their retirement, they did extensive traveling by bus tours covering most of the USA, including Hawaii and Canada. During her retirement years she was able to enjoy her large yard, her many flowers and was always able to volunteer. Edwin died August 10, 1989 and Elina lived on the farm for 51 years before buying a home in Ellendale and moving August 17, 1997.
Elina was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, LWML Circle, American Legion Auxiliary #137 and First Star Club of Starion Financial Bank of Ellendale.
Elina is survived by sons, Daryl and Delwyn Delzer; daughters, Deanna Healy, Doraine Ryan, Donna Meidinger and Drusilla Dukart; brother, Joseph Kirvida; sister, Magdalene Grenz; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister, Annette Weixel.
