John Outlaw Baker III, 76, of Indianapolis passed away Dec. 27.

He was born on Dec. 12, 1937, in Taylor, to the late John Outlaw and Mary B. (Bunnell) Baker.

John was born to coach. Students and players were very special to him. He believed in teaching the whole child, not just subject matter. Although he'd retired from teaching, he never stopped coaching. During the season, he coached in his sleep every night. Loudly sometimes. He watched every sport all the time, and his wife Jesslyn enjoyed them with him. He became involved with the Lions Club and applied the same fervor to them that he had football.

He is survived by his wife Jesslyn, children John, Jeannene and spouse Sherrod, Jacque and spouse Tad, Jill, their mother Judy, step children Gail and spouse Pat, Lynn, Bryan and spouse Cozie, Melody, Jonathan and spouse Natalie, siblings Mary and spouse Steve, Sam and spouse Courtney, grandchildren Gary and spouse Paula, Tamika, Christian and spouse Ryan, Maeghan, Charity, Chandler, Zoe, Artiss, Andre, Jewel, Monica, Jake, Andrew, Michael, Charlie, Jesslyn, numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

John was a well-loved coach and teacher at multiple schools throughout Texas.

Interment will take place at Taylor City Cemetery in Taylor on Friday, Jan. 3, at 1 p.m.
