Mrs. Sybilla Bates died at the Dixon Public hospital Aug. 30, 1950, after a long illness.
She was born in Carroll county, Maryland, April 15, 1863 and came to Illinois at the age of six years with her parents, Jonas and Susan Beightel.
She was united in marriage to Benjamin Bates, March 29, 1883. There were five children. Her husband and one daughter, Lucille, preceded her in death. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Harley (Adah) Cartright and Mrs. Frank (Evelyn) Fordham, both of Dixon, two sons, Clarence, Dixon and Ernest, Chicago; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Charles Davis, DeKalb and Mrs. Ethel Brookner, Dixon.
Mrs. Bates was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian church and a charter member of the Candle Lighters society of the local Presbyterian church.
Services were held Friday afternoon at the Preston funeral home with Rev. Bliss Cartwright officiating. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery.
