GEORGE ESPES (sic)

George Espes (sic. Estes), 80, two miles south of Linby, passed away yesterday in the St. Joseph's hospital in Ottumwa following a serious illness of six weeks.

Funeral services will be held from the Packwood Methodist church at 2 oclock tomorrow afternoon in charge of the Masonic order. Mr. Espes has been a member of Abingdon A.F. & A. M. No. 104 for over forty years. Interment will take place at Packwood.

ESTES FUNERAL

Funeral services of Mr. George E. Estes were held Saturday afternoon at the Methodist Episcopal church in Packwood. Rev. B. G. Hankins of Moravia and former pastor of this church delivered the funeral sermon. Mr. Frank Kesselring, a Past Grand Maser of the Masonic Lodge, conducted the Masonic service. Mr. Estes had been a member of the Abingdon Lodge No. 104 AF & A.M. for 43 years. He was 80 years of age, was married in 1872 to Flora Jane Whitson and to this union were born three children, all living on farms near Packwood. They are Mrs. Ivan Leisure, William A. and Oscar A. Estes. For the past 60 years Mr. and Mrs. Estes have lived on different farms in this vicinity. He was a large land owner and was vice president of the Farmers Savings Bank of Packwood. Nine weeks ago he was taken to the St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa, where he passed away on Thursday April 14. Mrs. Estes who is 75 years of age is in very poor health but was able to attend the funeral services. Other near relatives are four grandchildren Orville C., Lawrence W., and Ira G. Leisure and Irene Estes, and 2 great grandchildren, LaVerne and Louise Leisure. The large auditorium of the church was filled with relatives and friends who met to show the last respects to one so well and favorably known. Many beautiful flowers also showed the esteem in which the deceased was held. Burial was made in the Packwood cemetery where impressive Masonic service (sic) was used. Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the services included Mr. John Estes of Lineville, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. J. N, Whitson, Webster City, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Buchholtz, Jewell, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Nels Havens and Mr. and Mrs. Don Soloman of Bushnell, Illinois, Mrs. James Quire West Liberty, Iowa.
