He was born in Cresson, Pa., on September 25, 1922, son of the late Walter and Clara Byrne Montgomery.
He resided in Erie since 1951. John was a member of and previously served as Eucharist Minister at St. James R.C. Church. He had previously been active with the Boy Scouts, and was Scout Master of Troop #46.
John served in the Royal Canadian Air Force, and was also a veteran of the US Army, serving in WWII. He was employed with National Fuel Gas for 28 years as a supervisor for land and leasing, prior to his retirement in 1982. He was the OSHA Safety Director for N.F.G.
John was the widower of Margaret Krieger Montgomery.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, Bud and Richard Montgomery.
Interment, St. Gregory Cemetery.
