Laura Hannah Weekley Joy,90 of Orangeburg (Formerly of Rome, Georgia)passed away Tuesday December 31, 2013 at her daughter's home

Private Services were held by the family. Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg is assisting the family.

She was born February 27, 1923 in Panama City, Florida; one of eight children; born to the late Robert Lynn Weekley and the late Margaret Minor Weekley. She grew up in Tampa, FL and in 1949 married Rayford Baxter Joy of Brookneal, VA. They lived in Rome, GA for a number of years where he died in 1970. Mrs. Joy worked as a book-keeper most of her life and she was an excellent seamstress, sewing for her family and many people in and around Rome. She was the widow of the late Rayford Baxter Joy and was preceded in death by a son; David Baxter Joy.


Survivors include two daughters; Becky Wienges (Lawrence) of Orangeburg, SC and Margaret Gresham (Jeff) of Rome, GA; also two grandchildren; Ras Wilner Fincher of Roswell, GA and Margaret Joy Wienges of Columbia, SC Friends may call at the residence of her daughter and son-in-laws home.

Memorials may be made to Healing Species; PO Box 1202; Orangeburg, SC 29116 or to an animal charity of one's choice.
