RITES HELD
FOR BUTLER

______
Mr. G.C. Butler, Local Un-
dertaker Meets Death by
Accidental Drowning

______
Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon at the Butler Funeral Home on Monroe street for G.C. Butler, well known prominent citizen of Minden, who met his death by accidental drowning.

Rev. A.S. Lutz, pastor of the First Methodist church, conducted the funeral services at the Funeral home of which the deceased was the owner. Interment was in the family plot in the city cemetery, beside the body of his wife, who died some years ago.

Mr. Butler's death was a tragedy which shocked the city last Wednesday noon when his lifeless body was found in a bar pit on the Shreveport road, a quarter of a mile east of the Dorcheat bridge, by J.F. Kinney, proprietor of the Piggly-Wiggly store. Butler had been under the treatment of a physician for dizziness for several months, and was in the habit of bathing his face in water when one of the spells occurred. It is presumed that he had an attack and after parking his car on the road side, went to the bar pit and was in the act of bathing his face, when he fell into the water and was unable to save himself from drowning.

Mr. Butler was born in the Pine Grove community, in what was then Claiborne parish, but now Webster, October 13, 1858, a son of Oliver E. Butler and Mrs. Fannie Carr Butler. Nearly fifty years ago he became a citizen of Minden.

The deceased is survived by four children, three sons and a daughter, J. Atwood Butler of Jewett, Texas, Dr. Edgar Butler of Minden, Mrs. Morris Rathbun and Olva B. Butler of Shreveport, one sister, Mrs. May Garland of the Pine Grove Community, two grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. A niece, Mrs. Percy Rountree of Vidalia, formerly Miss Emma Lou Garland, was a member of his household for years - until her marriage some years ago, and was lovingly regarded as though she were one of his children.
