Claude J. Harris, age 73, of 7051 W. 24th St, Gary passed away Thursday, October 7, 1976 at St Margaret Hospital. Survivors: two daughters, Mrs Harold (Norma) Hinshaw and Mrs Claudia Harris of Griffith; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs Eula (Robert) Henderson of Gary; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife Esther in April. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 10 a.m. at the Kuiper Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor James Payne officiating. Burial, Chapel Lawn Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Friday 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman (2 blocks south of Ridge Rd) Highland. Mr. Harris was a member of the Cline Gardens Christian Church, retired auto mechanic-retired from the Lake County Sheriff Department, retired chief of the Lake County Deputy Sheriff Association, retired from the Lake County Highway Department. He was a member of the F.O.P. Lodge #125 of Lake County, the National Sheriffs Association, the McKinley Lodge #712 F and AM of Hammond, the Orak Temple, AAONNS of Hammond, the Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, South Bend Consistory 32nd degree, Democratic Precinct Committeeman of Calumet Township #1 for many years, Gary Commandary #57, Tall Cedars and retired from the Teamsters Union Local #142. Memorials may be given for Cancer Research in care of the family. The McKinley Lodge F and AM will hold memorial services Friday evening at 8:30 p.m.
