Michael F. Young, co-founder and owner of Crestside Ballwin Heating and Cooling in Affton, died Thursday (Oct. 20, 2005) at his home in Oakville after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was 60. Mr. Young was born and raised in St. Louis. He graduated from Southwest High School in 1964 and married his high school sweetheart, Suzanne "Sue" Richert Young, in 1967. Mr. Young and his wife established Crestside Ballwin Heating and Cooling in Affton in 1973. They owned and operated the business for more than 30 years, serving customers throughout St. Louis County. Though Mr. Young initially did much of the work himself, he eventually hired employees as the company's workload grew. The business now has approximately 35 employees and is an employer of Sheet Metal Workers Local 36. Mr. Young was a member of the Air Conditioning Contractors of America and the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association. Mr. Young was a member and past president of the Affton Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Sunset Hills and Crestwood chambers of commerce. He also served on the board of Citizens National Bank. Mr. Young was a member of Crestwood Elks, Hampton Lions, the Oil Mens Club and the Outlaws Auto Club. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Kutis Affton Chapel, 10151 Gravois Road. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Mary Mother of the Church, 5901 Kerth Road. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. In addition to his wife, his survivors include two daughters, Lisa Graf of Imperial and Kim Wertenberger of Festus; a son, Jeff Young of Fenton; and five grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Lung Association of Eastern Missouri, 1118 Hampton Avenue, St. Louis, Mo. 63139.
