Mr. Devine was the operator of grocery stores in Kansas City for more than half a century. He retired in 1948. Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, he came to Kansas City, Kansas, at the age of 24. His first grocery store was at 923 Gilmore Avenue, which he operated for 20 years. His second grocery store, which he operated for 24 years, was at 300 So. Valley.
He was survived by his wife, Anna, and his son, Thomas, both of the home; his daughter, Mrs. Don Flanigan, of 2542 North 17th in Kansas City, Kansas; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Dowling of Leavenworth, Mrs. Fred Swanson of 3701 Walker Ave. and Mrs. Martha Hayes of 220 South Tenth, both of Kansas City, Kansas.
The Rosary recitation was prayed from the Butler Funeral Home, where the family received friends. The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Cathedral in Kansas City, Kansas. Interment followed at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
