Bossier City, LA - Anita Kay Deen Henderson, age 67, passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at her home in Bossier City, LA. Visitation and funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 2nd at First United Methodist Church, 500 Common Street, Head of Texas Street, Shreveport, LA 71101. The visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the funeral services immediately following at 11:00 a.m. in Couch Chapel. Rev. Lisa Turnbull will be officiating the service. An interpreter will be provided for the hearing impaired.
Kay was preceded in death by her former spouse and good friend, James E. Henderson, Jr.; and her beloved parents, O.W. and Dorothy Deen. She is survived by her daughter, Molly Henderson Maranto and husband, Will; daughter, Amy Elise Henderson and significant other, Brian Dingess; brother, Bill W. Deen and wife, Debbie; grandsons, Ben and James Maranto; and many other relatives and close friends whom she loved very dearly.
Kay was a graduate of Rocky Mount High School, a retiree of the United States Postal Service and was very active in the deaf community. She was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church, the Shreveport Deaf Action Center, and an alumnus of the Line Avenue School for the Deaf. Throughout her life, Kay loved to draw, paint, crochet, and bake. She also enjoyed watching movies, gardening, and playing with her two precious dogs, Willow and Gizmo. Kay was a sweet-natured, generous woman who loved doting on her daughters, grandbabies, and close friends. Her face would always light up just being around the people she cherished. Most of all, Kay loved God and had unwavering faith in Him.
The family would like to thank all of our relatives and friends for their continued love and support. We would also like to give a special thanks to Brenda Hall Lazarus for being such a loving and helping friend to Kay throughout her life and her recent difficulties.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Shreveport, Deaf Community Ministry.
