James Mabry Ables went to be with the Lord on December 27, 2013. He was born on Febraury 13, 1932. Mabry was a life long resident of Holmes County and friend to everyone he met. He was a retired heavy machinery operator who had his own business for many years.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, Joe Byrd and Essie Ables,
his sisters, Gladys Rogers and LaVerne "Wink" Ainsworth, and his daughter Pamela Ables Shurley.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Geneva Mobley Ables, and their four surviving children, Sandra Sartin (Tony) of Brandon, Grady Ables (Teri) of Lexington, Terry Ables (Margaret) of Pickens, and Barry Ables of Lexington and their son in law Rob Shurley, of Memphis, TN. His brother, Joe C. "Snow" Ables of Lexington and sister, Annie Fay Ferrell of Lexington. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jennifer Shurley Hatchett (Tony) of Ocala, Florida, Brien Ables of Jackson Hole, WY, Robert Shurley of Memphis, TN, Davis Ables of Indianola, Brooks Ables of Brookhaven and Molly Ables of Pickens and three step-grandchildren, Tammy Rowland and Jake and Anna Kay Fletcher. Additionally he is survived by two great-granddaughters, Holland and Keeghan Hatchett.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 pm at Harland Creek Baptist Church in Coxburg, Mississippi on December 30th with burial immediately following.Published in Clarion Ledger on Dec. 30, 2013
