Lance Corporal Carl Lex Raines II, of the U.S. Marine Corps, Enterprise, Ala., died from injuries caused by the detonation of an improvised explosive device near the city of Quam, Iraq. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Sara Lou Raines of Bonifay, Frank and Doris Holden of Chesterfield, England. Survivors include his parents, Carl and Gillian Raines; 2 sisters, Traces Kilcrease and Alexandra Raines, all of Enterprise; a brother, Lee Roddis of England; brother in law, Steven Kilcrease of Enterprise; sister in law, Ellie Roberts of England, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Raines received the Combat Action Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Purple Heart. He was commander of the JROTC drill team during his senior year. His father served 2 terms in the USMC/Army in Vietnam and was retired from the Army. Funeral services were held Oct. 17th at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Enterprise with the Rev. Jim Duhaime officiating. Burial, with full military honors was at the cemetery with Patterson-Sorrells Funmeral Home directing.
