She was born to Susan (Anderson) and Mordica Aaron Chitty.

She married James Dyer. They had a daughter, Mabel Dyer and a son, Melvin Raymond Dyer.

She married William Ebenezer Race on April 1, 1907 in Jackson County, Illinois. She and William had 4 children - Mordecia, Herbert, James and Wilma. They also raised William's nephew Melvin "Bunky" Hill after the death of his mother.

Mrs. Nannie Race, daughter of Mordica and Susan Chitty, was born Feb. 12, 1874 at Desoto, Ill. and departed this life Feb 9, 1961 at the age of 86 years, 11 months, and 27 days. She was preceeded in death by five children, three sisters, and one brother. She was united in marriage to William E. Race April 1, 1907 and to this union were born nine children.

She leaves to mourn her passing four children; Mrs. Mabel Giordano of Chicago; Herbert of Brea, California; James of Norwalk, California; Mrs. Wilma Keller of Carpenterville, Illinois; one foster son Melvin Hill of Willow Hill; two brothers Steve Chitty of East St. Louis, Illinois; Walter Chitty of Harrisburg, Illinois; 15 Grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren, plus a host of friends.

Mrs. Race was a resident of the Mound-Willow Hill community for the early years of her life but for the past 40 years she has lived in Chicago. Six months preceeding her death Mrs. Race moved to Carpenterville to live with her daughter.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all who have helped in any way during this time of sorrow. May God richly bless you for your thoughtfulness.
