Charles E. Lannin, 79, Lifelong resident of this area, died at a local hospital Tuesday night after a lingering illness.

Mr. Lannin was born on June 27, 1874, at Old Mission and has lived in this community all his life. He was a cherry grower for a number of years, retiring 20 years ago when he moved into this city to make his home.

He is survived by his widow, Mary, of this city; two daughters, Mrs. Alton Wakley and Mrs. Clifford Breithaupt, both of this city; one stepdaughter, Mrs. William Lawson of this city; four sons, Hughey and Archie of Muskegon, Forrest of Detroit and Roy of Spring Lake; two brothers, Thomas of this city and Bert of Flint; 15 grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. One son, Frank, was killed in service in World War II.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. from the Martinson funeral home in this city, with Rev. Francis Foley officiating. The body will be placed in the mausoleum until spring, when burial will be made in Oakwood cemetery.
