Inlisted in the Civil War August 5, 1862 in Vernon as a private with Co. C of the 117th Infantry, New York Volunteers. He served in the Army of the Potomac and died of typhoid fever 24 July 1863 at Reginental Hospital, Portsmouth, Va. Unfortunately the family was not able to bring the body home.
