Old family records published in Mercer Memories said she was a Martin and sister to other Martins including Sarah Martin Mercer. I was not able to prove her maiden name until I found Andrew's 1812 Bounty Land application and it says Martin. Alice Smith says her maiden name is Martin since Bonaparte Flemming m. 1st cousin Mahala Mercer (Napoleon Bonaparte was son of Andrew and Mary Flemming and Mahala Mercer was the dau. of Levi Mercer and Sarah Martin, thus Sarah and Mary would be the sisters (daus. of William Martin) in order for them to be first cousins). Levi Mercer was a neighbor of Andrew Fleming and he married a Sarah Martin in Monongalia Co, VA. Sarah's sister Mary (Polly) was supposed to have married an Andrew Fleming per Mercer Memories Aug 1986 Vol. 1 Nov 5 p. 46. and "Mahala Mercer, daughter of Levi Mercer and Sarah Martin, married a N.B. Fleming, a cousin". Andrew Fleming is listed in the next household to John Martin and Jesse Martin on the 1820 Franklin Twp Jackson County Ohio census. This tends to give credence to the fact that her father is William Martin and of the Martin family of Monongalia Co VA but I need to go through deeds to prove it. The 1860 census says she was born in PA not VA but it could be incorrect or it is correct and she is from the Martin family that came from Chester Co PA.
