He married Adolphine Dreiling Oct. 11, 1926 in Vincent. She died Dec. 29, 1931. He married Elizabeth Dreiling Oct. 25, 1932 in Vincent.
He was a farmer and stockman, retiring in 1972 and moving to Victoria. While in Vincent, he was organist at St. Boniface Catholic Church for 50 years. He served on the ASCS committee in Ellis County for several years and also had served on the Vincent and Victoria school boards. He was very active in the Knights of Columbus on the local and state levels.
He was a local and county historian for the city of Victoria; St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria; and Ellis County. He was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church and a former member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Third Degree Council No. 1867, and a member of Fourth Degree Assembly Council No. 1929, both of Victoria.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Paul J., Victoria; four daughters, Mary Frances Klaus and Armella M. Schippers, both of Hays, Martha E. Westhusin of Covina, Calif., and Alice Erickson of Arkansas City; 28 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; four step-great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas; two sisters, Mary Rajewski and Ellen Dreiling; a son, William Jr., and one granddaughter, Amy Baier.
Services were Saturday at Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria, Fathers Paulinus Karlin, Michael Suchnicki, John Lager and Dedacus Dunn officiated; burial in St. Fidelis Cemetery. Cline's Mortuary. The family suggest memorials to the Father Callistus Seminary Fund or to St. Boniface or St. Fidelis Cemetery Funds.
