Solveig "Sally" June Weis, 80, of Bemidji, MN, died Monday, April 11, 2011 at her home surrounded by family and friends after a one-year battle with cancer.

Sally was born on November 23, 1930 in Minot, North Dakota to Axel and Tomine (Stenskog) Sorenson. She moved with her parents to Bemidji at the age of one. She attended Northern Elementary School and graduated from Bemidji High School in 1948. She earned her B.S. degree from Bemidji State University and became an elementary teacher.

Sally began her teaching career in a one-room school house in the foothills of the snowy mountains near Lewistown, Montana. She also taught in Grand Forks, ND, Bismarck, ND, Bemidji, and Marble, MN.

She married Donald Opsdahl and they had a son in 1957. The marriage ended in divorce.

She married Earl Weis in Bemidji in 1959 and Earl adopted her son, Bob. They moved to Taconite, MN where they lived for 14 years before moving back to Bemidji.

She enjoyed living and her 29-year teaching career. She had many enjoyable hobbies including sewing, music, and traveling in Europe, the Caribbean, and many states in the United States.

Sally is survived by son, Robert (Lori), grandson Christopher, special friend and companion Edward Robinson, brothers, William (Jan) Sorenson, Thomas Sorenson, Dale (Marilyn) Sorenson, all of Bemidji and sister, Kathy (Dale) Sommers of Northfield. Nieces and nephews, William, Mary, Diane, Peggy, Janet, Cindy, Donald, Karlin, Jayne, Ryan, Sari, Lori, and Michelle, and their children and grandchildren.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Earl, and nephew, Chad Sorenson. Sally requested that you spend time with your loved ones doing things you love in lieu of a visitation and funeral.
