Coroners deputies said Mr. Mehrten suffered a seizure while waiting for his breakfast. He was taken to a Lodi hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His wife told deputies he has a long history of heart ailments.
Mr. Mehrten had operated a machine and welding shop here since 1955. Previous to that he built rice harvesters in a shop on Aurora Street in Stockton.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, and daughter, Judy Greer, both of Clements, a sister, Una Disch of Daly City and two grandchildren.
