Mr. Carlisle was born in Edgecombe County on August 8, 1923, son of the late George and Alice Kennedy Carlisle. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy, serving for 20 years and retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. Later he worked for Burroughs Wellcome in refrigeration. He also was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church, an avid bowler and a Duke basketball fan. Willis was a charter member of the Williamston AMVETS.
He was preceded in death by: sons, Wayne Carlisle and Donald Carlisle; and sisters, Maggie Walston and Martha James.
On Nov. 30, 1953, he married Doris Edwards Carlisle, who survives. In addition to his wife, Willis is survived by: daughters, Linda C. Roberson and husband, Ricky, of Williamston, Doris Ann Etheridge and husband, Ricky, of Oak City; sister, Anna Edmondson, of Tarboro; grandchildren, Shelia Griffin, Jesse Carlisle, Rebekah Callero, Rachel Moore, Rikki Lynn Ray, Alee Roberson and Kelby Roberson; and eight great-grandchildren.
