John N. Moffet, 90, passed away on December 25, 2013 in Wichita Falls. A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, December 30, 2013 in Crestview Cemetery under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.
John was born October 27, 1923 to John Clifford and Eleda Bertha(Nelson) Moffett in Alhambra, California and raised in California. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 and reached the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, Training Command. He was Honorably Discharged in 1945 and married Jo Ann Dozier on August 11, 1945 in Midland, Texas.
John began working in the oil industry becoming the production and drilling superintendent for Cascade Petroleum Company. He transferred to Wichita Falls in 1959 and in 1962 he started his own company, Moffet Oil Corporation. In 1964 he merged with Ryder Scott Management Company where he remained involved in the business up until his death. John was also responsible for the formation of M&M Drilling Company, an oil and gas drilling firm.
In 1983 he established the JBJ Ranch in Wise County, Texas that continues to be a working cattle ranch. John enjoyed fishing trips with his friends and continued his piloting career beyond the military to eventually log over 10,000 hours of flying time.
John was a self-made man who was dearly loved and respected by his family and many friends.
John was preceded in death by his wife Jo Ann Dozier Moffet; two brothers; a sister and a daughter-in-law Cheryl Ann Moffet. He is survived by his children, Sheryl Ann Granger and husband Garry of Coppell, Texas; John D. Moffet and wife Roberta of Wichita Falls, Texas and Loren Lynn Moffet and husband Gerald Todd of Wichita Falls, Texas. John is also survived by five grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
