Melvin S. Dillard Sr., 80, died July 23 at Chatham Nursing Home. He was born in Savannah and lived in Thunderbolt since 1954. He was retired from Union Camp Corporation. He was a communicant of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church and formerly of the Nativity Parish.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 184 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 660. He is the widower of Barbara Downing Dillard.
Survivors: two sons, Spencer and Robert; daughter, Julia of Dunwoody; brother-in-law, and sister-in-law, Judge Frank and Connie Downing, both of Savannah; three grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, burial in Bonaventure Cemetery. -Savannah Now, July 1999
