Joseph Columbus Bell, Sr. was born June 13, 1880, in Bryan County, Georgia, the youngest of eight children of James Daniel Bell and Mary Hendrix Bell. Joseph was a Spanish American War veteran and a Mason. He married Carrie Morgan Bell, and they had six children: Alma Bell, Fulton Ellis Bell, John W. Bell, Ethel Odell Bell Dillard, Joseph Columbus Bell, Jr., and an infant boy. Joseph died November 29, 1944, in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia, and is buried in Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah next to his wife Carrie. (contributor 19199118)
