When David was only 1, the family left Indiana & moved to Burriss, Ont. A few months later they moved to Emo, Ont. & in 1903, they moved to a homestead in Indus, MN.

David grew up on the farm in Indus & helped his father & brothers with the farm work. He attended the University of Minnesota & then returned home to the farm.

In 1938, David married Vivian York in Cullman, Alabama. His mother & sister had submitted his name to a magazine to help him find a wife. Vivian had also sent in her name looking for a pen pal. After corresponding for awhile, David drove down to meet her & they decided to marry. Their honeymoon was the drive back north to Indus.

David, Sr. had given David, Jr. land with the family's old honey house on it. David, Jr. added on to the honey house & converted it to a home for his family. David & Vivian had 4 children: Fanny Merle, Merry Marie, Susan, & Eural David.
