Gus lived in Indus all his life. He farmed with his father during his life & continued farming the homestead after his father's death. Gus & Ben practiced diversified farming, raising livestock, grains, & seed as well as cutting timber. In later years, they specialized in well-bred cattle & certified seed potatoes. His daughter Lorraine recalls the large task of keeping the potatoes free of potato bugs.
Gus married Gesine Lunning & they had 5 children: Arlene, Elsie Lorraine, Alma, Robert Leo, & James. Unfortunately, Arlene & James died at a young age and Alma was unable to walk or talk.
Gesine died in 1978 & Gus died in 1996. He was buried in the Indus Cemetery near Gesine.
