Indus on Rainy River: Gesine Lunning was born to Jerry D. Lunning & Katie Jelken in Fort Dodge, IA.

She married Gustav "Gus" Abelman & they farmed Gus's father's land in Indus throughout their lives. They had 5 children: Arlene, Elsie Lorraine, Alma, Robert Leo, & James. Arlene passed away when she was about 12 & James died as an infant. Alma was unable to walk or talk & spent much of her life in the Brainerd State Hospital & Northome Nursing Home.

With her children's problems & farm life in Indus, Gesine found life difficult. She passed away in 1978 & was buried in the Indus Cemetery.
