BLOOMING PRAIRIE -- The funeral for Esther Irene Schmeling will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield with the Rev. John Wolf officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield.
Mrs. Schmeling, 87, of Blooming Prairie, a homemaker and former teacher, died Tuesday evening (April 22, 1997) at Field Crest Nursing Home in Hayfield.
Esther Irene Kording was born Feb. 27, 1910, in Dodge County, graduated from Hayfield High School in 1927 and attended teachers training in Dodge Center. She taught in rural schools from 1929 to 1935. On June 20, 1935, she married Glenn Schmeling at Trinity Lutheran Church parsonage in Hayfield; they farmed in the Blooming Prairie area. Mrs. Schmeling was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Hope Circle.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Evan and Alan, both of Hayfield; three daughters, Diane Schmeling of Owatonna, Marion Schmeling of Richfield, Minn., and Lorna Schmeling of Coon Rapids, Minn.; nine grandchildren; and two sisters, Frieda Schmeling and Alvina Schmeling, both of Hayfield. She was preceded in death by a daughter, an infant son, four sisters and two brothers.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Vernon-Czaplewski Funeral Home
in Hayfield and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
