Nita Ailene Burrus

Nita Ailene Burrus, age 87, of Joliet, was born to Ethel and Arthur Clouser on October 11, 1926 in Knox County, Missouri. After graduating high school at 16, she went on to complete 2 years at Kirksville State Teachers College, later teaching all grades at a 2-room school house in Missouri.

On April 4, 1946, she married her sweetheart, Harold Loyd Burrus, a returning veteran. The marriage lasted 56 years until Harold's death. Nita enjoyed kids and was a Cub Scout leader, a Brownie leader, and youth leader at her church. Her work career included being a teacher, substitute teacher, working for the IRS, and managing a lunch counter for Woolworth in Springfield, IL. She retired after sixteen years with Illinois Bell Telephone Company in Joliet.

Nita and Harold enjoyed doing crafts and gardening. They loved to travel and upon retirement, became true snowbirds with close friends in Joliet, IL and in Mesa, AZ.

Nita passed away on December 24th.

She is survived by son, Bob (wife Beverly) of Galena, MO; daughter, Karen (husband Jim) Hubbard of Grand Prairie, TX; sister, Doris Hobbs of Springfield, IL; brother, Robert (wife Kathy) Clouser of St. Charles, MO; and sister, Glenda (husband Hank) Bowers of Macon, MO. She also had several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Services for Nita Aileen Burrus will be held Monday, December 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fred Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Pastor Kevin Comfort will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Visitation MONDAY MORNING from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home
