Robert was born Sept 12, 1906 in Vinton, the son of Jacob and Emma VanDyke Abernathy. He married Onolee Fossett in 1924, she died in 1972. He married next to Ruth Hepker in 1973.
Survivors include his wife Ruth, five daughters Cleo Rodgers and Doris (Terry) Bilsland all of Cedar Raids, Roberta (John) Heitmann, Rose (Robert) Hines all of Center Point, Elizabeth (Donald) Starks of Lamont, a stepson, Merwyn (Darlene) Hepker of Center :Point, a brother Dallas of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, two daughters, Lillian Ware and Joan Chase.
Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
