Rudolph was the second child (of 7) born to John and Ingrid Lang. His father was a miner, and Rudolph worked in the mines as a youth. Rudolph was an accomplished singer. He was a music teacher, a handyman, a carpenter, and the manager of two film processing labs. Rudolph joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1922 and married Jennie Adamson in 1923 in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in Salt Lake City, Utah and Rigby, Idaho briefly. They spent most of their married life in Los Angeles County, California. Rudolph and Jennie had 5 children.
In 1975, Jennie died of cancer. In 1977, Rudolph married Marguerite Denny.
