Buddy, as every person throughout this section knew him, was one of the veteran stock buyers of Southwest Missouri. He started over 60 years ago, saw bad times and good times but kept at the business until only a few weeks before his death, which came as a surprise, since Buddy had hardly ever known sickness.
An ardent Democrat and community worker, Buddy could always be counted on when anyone needed work or a donation. He will be missed by countless friends besides his relatives, but his home above will be enriched by his presence.
Funeral services for George W. (Buddy) 83 years old, a resident of Diamond all his life,, were held at the Diamond Christian Church at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. The Rev. Powell Smith of Shawnee, Okla., formerly of Joplin, and the Rev. H. Brown officiated.
Mr. Boyd died at 1:30 o'clock Sunday morning in Jane Chinn Hospital at Webb City, where he had been a patient three weeks, suffering from pneumonia.
Six of Mr. Boyd's grandsons were pallbearers. They were Howard Boyd, Glen Boyd, Bernard Boyd, Jim Boyd, John Boyd and Byron Payne. Burial was in Diamond Cemetery.
The body laid in state at the Boyd home southwest of Diamond until the funeral hour.
