Mr. Dickson was a familiar figure in Calhoun County. One of the last of the generation that was familiar with the civil war and reconstruction periods, he was reared during the most distressing period of the South’s history. He knew hardships and privations and learned by adversity the value of honesty and truth. He was outspoken, frank and fearless, yet he was considerate of everyone and was a loyal friend and a valued ally in any fight on political or economic questions. The editor of this newspaper has long treasured the friendship of Mr. Dickson and it is a source of pride that not log before his death he took occasion to again affirm his friendship and his loyalty.
He had been I most of the homes of Calhoun County at one time or another, as he was a cattle buyer for many years and called on those who had livestock for sale.
Mr. Dickson was on of the type of citizens who are fast disappearing- rugged, honest, a natural born fighter and a man who voiced his conviction without fear or favor. He was worth much to Calhoun County and his passing will leave a vacancy in county-wide affairs that will be hard to fill.
