After his father died, Harold, his mother, and his younger brother Glenn went to work. The 1930 US Census shows a farm family in Thurston County, Nebraska.

Services for Harold L. Schroder, 82 of Omaha who died August 1, 1996 were Saturday, August 3 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Cathy of Omaha; a brother, Glen E. Schroder of Omaha; sisters, Clara Ehlers of Blair and Goldie McManigal, Grants Pass, Oregon and a granddaughter, Carla Schroder.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
