He was born March 22, 1927 in Catawba County to the late Paul Beard, Sr. and Annie Mae Jenkins Beard. He was a member of Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He was retired from Conover Chair Company.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Una Setzer Beard, his second Wife, Pearl Rhoney Beard; and two brothers, Russell Beard and Bobby Mack Beard; and one sister, Margaret Blalock.
Survivors include his wife, Vashti L. Beard of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Paulette & Ronnie Hurley of Newton; one son and daughter-in-law, Jeff & Cherel Beard of Claremont; one stepdaughter, Regina P Huber of St. LOUIS, MO; five grandchildren, Marty Hurley, Amber Black, Jeff Beard, Jr., Telisha Seagle and Rob Gatwood, Ill; two great grandchildren, Alexis Beard and Allison Ann Gatwood; two sisters, Mary Randall of Catawba and Elizabeth Rozzelle of Newton; half Sister, Brenda LeVevers of Hickory; and two half brothers, Lowell Beard of Malden and Alvtn Beard of Newton.
The funeral service was held on Monday, September 10, 2001 at Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden and conducted by the Revs. Charles Worley and Matt Seagle.
Burial followed In Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery in Newton with military graveside rites performed by American Legion Post 16.
