He was the grandson of: Charles Willen "Charlie", 1887-1959, and Martha Ellen (Price) Allen, 1894-1967, and Turner, 1895-1957, and Rosettie (Warren) Skaggs, 1899-1988. He was raised in the Scotts Ridge Community of Marion County, Kentucky.
His four siblings were Patricia (Allen) Knopp, 1946-2004; Judy Elaine (Allen) Huber; Gary Wayne Allen, 1949-1997; and John Nicky Allen.
