WAKEMAN - Clarence Combs, 75 years of age, and a resident of Wakeman, passed away at his home December 21, 2013, following a lengthy battle with COPD.

Born June 22, 1938, in Hazard, Kentucky, Clarence was raised and spent his early years in Kentucky. Wakeman had been his home for the last 40 years.

Clarence proudly served in the U.S. Marines in the Mediterranean. He was employed in the maintenance department at Ford Motor Company in Lorain for 33 years before retiring in 1993. Clarence was an avid Cleveland Indians fan. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, and enjoying a good cup of coffee.

Survivors include his daughter and her husband, Tina and Arnold Bennett of South Amherst; grandchildren, Erik (Jasmin), and Derek (Jennifer); great-grandchildren, Hailey Bennett and Johnny Marquez; his brother and his wife, Benton and Bobbie Combs of Barbourville, Kentucky; his sisters, Betty Donaldson of Davenport, Florida, Mildred Hembree of Ermine, Kentucky, Sharon Singleton and her husband, Gordon of Hazard, Kentucky, Iris Singleton and her husband Ron, of Fisty, Kentucky and Mary Lee Caves of Garden City, Kansas.

Clarence was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Faye Combs (nee Jones) on August 13, 2006; brothers, Calvin and Henry; sisters, Beatrice Gayheart, Mary Edna Burge, Louise Kammers and Cordillia Shulaw; and his parents, Henry and Ruby Combs (nee Lay).

Friends may call Thursday, December 26, 2013, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 500 W. Main Street, South Amherst. The Rev. Farrell Keith, pastor will officiate. Full military honors will be provided by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in South Amherst.
